What is this program?

The Nebraska AEYC Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship Program is a new opportunity for those working in the early childhood field to learn & grow! Apprentices are matched with a mentor and receive 1-on-1 support to develop their skills and knowledge of early childhood education. Eligible apprentices receive a T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship to assist their pursuit of an AA degree in early childhood, and can earn college credit while working full time via on-the-job training and credit for prior learning.

Info for Apprentices

Benefits

  • $2,400 per year stipend
  • T.E.A.C.H. scholarship to cover 80% of tuition and books for courses leading to an AA degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Receive regular visits with a mentor
  • On the job, competency based training

Requirements

  • Center-based child care teacher working in a classroom for a minimum of 30 hours per week *
  • Complete at least 9 hours of college coursework per year through the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship
  • Strong dedication to, and enthusiasm for, teaching children
  • Commit to 2 years of participation in the program

​* At this time, center directors and family childcare providers are ineligible to apply. However, they are still eligible to apply for the traditional T.E.A.C.H. scholarship.

Benefits

  • $5,000 per year stipend
  • Build staff competency and leadership
  • Retain staff and help support their professional development
  • Staff will earn higher qualifications

Requirements

  • Provide out of classroom time for monthly apprentice and mentor meetings
  • Support apprentice as they learn new competency based skills and improve classroom quality
  • Agree to required 3% wage increase for apprentice
  • Agree to T.E.A.C.H. scholarship responsibilities for sponsoring programs
  • Commit to 2 years of participation in the program
