“The need for high-quality early childhood teachers is greater than ever. But many prospective and experienced teachers face challenges in affording and completing college degrees that provide them with the professional skills they need.” EarlyEdU Alliance
The Nebraska Department of Education – Office of Early Childhood is partnering with the University of Nebraska – Kearney, T.E.A.C.H./Nebraska AEYC, and the Buffett Early Childhood Institute to deliver a set of three EarlyEdU courses to early childhood educators in Nebraska at a very low cost. Beginning in the Fall 2019 semester, a cohort of early childhood educators began competency-based online coursework. The courses can be used for licensing required training hours and toward college credits through UNK. Throughout the courses, students will receive support from an instructor as well as a student advisor. At the end of the courses, students will have the opportunity to explore options for continuing their college coursework in a degree program and can apply to be a part of the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship program.

T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® – Across The Country

In 1990, Child Care Services Association of Chapel Hill, North Carolina created the Teacher Education and Compensation Helps (T.E.A.C.H.) Early Childhood Project to address the issues of under education, poor compensation and high turnover within the early childhood workforce. This project has expanded and is now available in over 20 states, including Nebraska. All T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® scholarships link continuing education with increased compensation and require that recipients and their sponsoring child care programs share in the cost.
In addition to providing significant scholarship assistance, T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® engages in helping recipients navigate challenges pursuing post-secondary education and advocating for needed systemic changes. These charts show the percentage of the 22 programs engaged in each activity for fiscal year 2017. Click Here for more information.
The T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® National Center also produces the guide Careers in Early Childhood. In this guide, you will find descriptions of the many career options in early childhood, as well as qualifications and expected salary ranges.
The T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® National Center was established in 2000 in response to the growth and expansion of the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Scholarship Initiative and to ensure the development, integrity and expansion of the T.E.A.C.H. Initiative and other integrated education and compensation initiatives.
